The City of Gardner recently held an information session about the US-56 Highway Reconstruction Project that will begin February 14th. The purpose of the project is to reconstruct the entirety of the roadway from Sycamore Street (Arvest Bank) to Old 56 Hwy. The entire roadway will be removed and replaced, including curbs, gutters, etc., in addition to other road enhancements such as a new traffic signal at the QuikTrip/Walgreens intersection.
The project is estimated to take 10 months, with at least one lane open in each direction the entire time. This will no doubt create some traffic challenges on Main Street in Gardner, but the City and the State of Kansas are committed to working with businesses and residents to lessen the impact. The project will be done in phases, beginning at Sycamore and Moonlight in the east-bound lanes. The Chamber will do its best to monitor progress and share any relevant updates with affected businesses as quickly as possible. Below is a projected timeline for the project.
